Ridiculous Road Trip #2, Day 31, Epic Roadside Fun
April 30
We pulled out of Gulf State Park, but didn’t get too far before we needed to stop for some epic roadside photos!
One of our rules for gaining a state sticker for our RV travel map, is an overnight or some significant stop. “Significant” is a hotly and ridiculously debated topic on our travels. Since our travel through Mississippi between Alabama and Louisiana was going to be very brief, we had fears that we would miss out on a significant stop. Luckily, Roadside America came through for us, and we definitely scored a significantly SIGNIFICANT stop at Gulf Coast Gator Ranch. We held a baby gator, fed some really big gators, and then took an airboat ride through the swamp and saw a few more gators. Woohooooo!
We were pretty excited that we also found a gator to nip at the camper too!
Doug loves this set of three photos:
First, warning signs…
“Huh, are those real?!”
Yep. Definitely real gators!
So, we went in and signed up for the gator-y fun!
Doug looks super comfortable
Snuggly gators, awwww
Who is a cute little baby?
It seems her name is “Gator Bait”. She been around for years, without befalling the fate of her name.
Woohoo!! Airboat!
Alligator snout, swimming away from us
With TJ, the young air boat pilot, behind us
Well pleased with our boat ride and gator visit, we headed off for the shrimp po’boys recommended by the gator farm folks. As we arrived at the crazy busy Bozo’s Seafood Market in Pascagoula, we found we were in line behind some other folks that were on our airboat. We ended up joining them for lunch, and enjoying Les and Mary’s company while we ate a delicious lunch.
Mississippi!
With our significantly significant stops in Mississippi completed, we headed onwards to Louisiana, and Fountainebleau State Park on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain.
We set up camp, and got in a hike around the lovely (and occasionally creepy) live oaks.
